‘I like you more than a lot,
but less than love.’
A perplexing gap
between more and less.
Albeit, feelings being more or less the same.
Regardless of where your feelings stand,
you want to surrender your whole being
on nights of vulnerability.
You want to take in every
ounce of their taste
on nights of yearning.
You want to unfold all your enchantingly depressed tales to them
on nights of loneliness.
But you resist.
You dive into a dilemma,
wherein the choice between
opening up too soon
and taking it unnecessarily slow
leaves you nowhere but
amidst the briskly swirling, ghastly winds of your past,
past mistakes that you don’t want to repeat.
Your heart shuts its door
to every possible sin that could jeopardize
what you have with them.
You don’t want to fall apart again,
so you have them reassuring you
over and over
that you both lie on the same page.
This does not mean you are not sure about them.
Of course, you may be!
But not at the expense of
either your sanity, or theirs!
